Two summers ago I lived in Harlem and fell in love with the pub right on my corner named Harlem Public. Harlem Public is not just your average bar and burger joint; it is a mecca for people who crave excellent beer, cocktails, and upscale bar food with a Southern twist.
At Harlem Public every meal is a party, especially brunch! It seems as though brunch has become the "it" meal for diners wanting an array of both sweet and savory options, while also having a legitimate reason to drink way before happy hour. Although brunch is not my favorite meal, the brunch at Harlem Public is the brunch to be.
When looking at the brunch menu it is incredibly hard to choose what to order because everything sounds so darn delicious. However, I found that the Breakfast Tacos with a side of cheesy grits and the #EggsDeb (their version of the classic Eggs Benedict) are the perfect choices for brunch. The breakfast tacos consists of corn tortillas, homemade chorizo that packs a punch of spice, scrambled eggs, guacamole, and pico de gallo. The acidity of the pico combined with the spice of the sausage and the creaminess of the guacamole is the epitome of the breakfast taco flavor combination. When I was ordering I decided to swap out the side of home fries for the cheesy grits. I am a sucker for grits and let me tell you these grits take the cake.
The #EggsDeb, similar to the Breakfast Tacos, is a classic dish that has been elevated beautifully. Harlem Public's Eggs Benedict has mashed avocado, thinly cut brown sugar cured bacon, and is topped off with a very creamy cheddar mornay sauce. If you love a great Eggs Benedict then this is your dish! There are many different ways to approach making an Eggs Benedict. I have seen this dish served with lobster, crab, smoked salmon, and Canadian Bacon, but after sampling this scrumptious crispy, salty-sweet version I became hooked.
